Clean Cooking Meets Community: Detra Energy at St. Mark's Cathedral Luwero
Detra Energy took its clean energy message to St. Mark's Cathedral in Luwero, engaging members of the community on cleaner and more efficient cooking technologies. The activation provided an opportunity for community members to interact directly with the Detra Energy team, explore clean cooking solutions and learn about options available for households seeking better ways to manage their cooking needs.
Bringing Clean Energy Into Community Spaces
At Detra Energy, we believe that clean energy conversations should reach people wherever communities gather.
Churches and faith-based institutions provide important platforms for community engagement, education and social transformation.
The St. Mark's Cathedral activation allowed Detra Energy to bring clean cooking directly into this community setting, making it easier for visitors to ask questions and understand the technologies available.
Subsidised Clean Cooking Options
During the activation, Detra Energy showcased selected ECOA Char Stove models available under the UECCC Price Subsidy Programme.
These included:
Ecoa Char Classic – Black
Ecoa Char Classic – Silver
Ecoa Char Plus
The team explained the benefits of the available solutions and helped visitors understand how improved cooking technologies can support reduced charcoal consumption, lower smoke levels and more efficient cooking.
Other improved cookware alternatives were also showcased for customers looking beyond the subsidised options.

Building Community Awareness
Clean cooking adoption is not only about affordability.
It also requires awareness.
Community activations such as this give people an opportunity to see the technology, understand how it works and ask questions before making a decision.
This direct engagement remains an important part of Detra Energy's approach to expanding access to renewable energy.
Enabled Through Partnerships
Our work in communities is strengthened through partnerships with organisations working across Uganda's clean energy ecosystem.
We appreciate the contribution of GIZ Uganda, NREP, the Clean Cooking Unit, Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development, ICLEI, UNACC, UECCC and other sector partners whose efforts continue to support greater awareness and access to clean cooking.
Our Commitment Continues
The St. Mark's Cathedral activation forms part of our continued commitment to taking clean energy beyond conventional business spaces and into communities.
Where communities gather, clean energy conversations should be part of the conversation.
