Community Engagement | Clean Communities | Clean Cooking

Detra Energy joined the community at Katwe Market for a market clean-up activity held in support of the Government of Uganda's national cleaning efforts.

The activity brought together community members and stakeholders around a shared objective: creating cleaner and healthier environments.

For Detra Energy, the engagement also created an opportunity to connect the conversation around clean communities with clean energy.

Clean Communities and Clean Kitchens

A clean environment does not stop at the market or public space.

The places where people live and cook are equally important.

During the Katwe engagement, Detra Energy used the opportunity to engage community members on the importance of clean cooking and introduce improved cooking technologies that can help reduce smoke and charcoal consumption.

Selected ECOA Char Stove models were showcased under the UECCC Price Subsidy Programme, including:

  • Ecoa Char Classic – Black

  • Ecoa Char Classic – Silver

  • Ecoa Char Plus

Taking Action at Community Level

Community engagement is an important part of Detra Energy's approach to renewable energy.

Rather than limiting clean energy conversations to formal exhibitions, our teams continue to participate in community activities where people can directly interact with our solutions and ask practical questions.

The Katwe Market clean-up demonstrated how community action can bring different conversations together from environmental cleanliness to responsible energy use.

Strong Partnerships for a Cleaner Future

Detra Energy appreciates the organisations and stakeholders contributing to Uganda's clean energy transition.

Our work is strengthened through engagement with partners including GIZ Uganda, NREP, the Clean Cooking Unit, Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development, ICLEI and UNACC.

The wider clean cooking ecosystem demonstrates the importance of collaboration between government, development partners, private-sector companies and communities.

A Shared Responsibility

Creating cleaner communities is a shared responsibility.

It requires cleaner public spaces, responsible waste management, improved energy choices and continued community education.

Detra Energy is proud to play its part by bringing renewable energy and clean cooking solutions closer to the communities we serve.
